I've been making some string blocks to add to the pile, and I also completed a crocheted scrappy afghan.<br />

This morning I started to sandwich together my Easy Street quilt. The top has been done for several years, but I've been putting off finishing it because it's so big. Today I bit the bullet and started the process. It's still only about half pinned, and I ran out of safety pins, but come Monday it will be ready to be quilted. Here's a picture of the top.<br />

Every time it's snowed this winter, it's been followed by rain, and it's supposed to rain again later on today, so I had to get some pictures this morning before the snow disappears again.<br />

I have a few finishes. My <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fair-isle-flower-sock" target="_blank">Fair Isle Flower Socks</a> are finished, as are my <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/circle-socks" target="_blank">Circle Socks</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7zNCP4-15Nrw-AZYG8GlEbqfHCDzVcMfj5RvDIUTElwQU7uc0s_jOtp-GUzZN5XlC2EmDXzb0moFpwNDgtEu4cPz_HaxKiaMPLuNv2hXp46VIZXzQmZoQGNB7uG4yp-WvNsLfzxKyXsq1/s1600/2018-01-24+14.32.51.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7zNCP4-15Nrw-AZYG8GlEbqfHCDzVcMfj5RvDIUTElwQU7uc0s_jOtp-GUzZN5XlC2EmDXzb0moFpwNDgtEu4cPz_HaxKiaMPLuNv2hXp46VIZXzQmZoQGNB7uG4yp-WvNsLfzxKyXsq1/s320/2018-01-24+14.32.51.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6WCVVQQkEneCltNHGVCJgGfQbXtD9dtecuBduumuZEhoIkJjcX-1TKBFBU2HJ16CvG40_zLIiDCH6m8EZANDVEXA0iQirFj-UTU0V6NAjMu_6nUlVAdZzaOR8PIQA_H1dLSa8Cd70hJ28/s1600/2018-02-07+13.34.35.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6WCVVQQkEneCltNHGVCJgGfQbXtD9dtecuBduumuZEhoIkJjcX-1TKBFBU2HJ16CvG40_zLIiDCH6m8EZANDVEXA0iQirFj-UTU0V6NAjMu_6nUlVAdZzaOR8PIQA_H1dLSa8Cd70hJ28/s320/2018-02-07+13.34.35.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I also finished my <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cosy-stripe-blanket" target="_blank">Cozy Stripe Scrappy Blanket</a>. It measures 42" x 58". I was hoping to use up lots of leftovers, but the leftover bag seems to be just as full as when I started! I'm hoping to make several blankets this winter and donate them to a nursing home.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrYW2KreMAXtRvso9FIu4i74UEoKfGzJzzLz6gs0Zrb1fFFCI0XPK-50X6rG4fIfL4sW3w4X1HusWd-viCvV2gaX15KTfekN4OHZUUSeA3RUPCdK3mGRgEgqTgj2c7KP9DeQBPp5svcXWo/s1600/2018-02-07+13.35.52.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrYW2KreMAXtRvso9FIu4i74UEoKfGzJzzLz6gs0Zrb1fFFCI0XPK-50X6rG4fIfL4sW3w4X1HusWd-viCvV2gaX15KTfekN4OHZUUSeA3RUPCdK3mGRgEgqTgj2c7KP9DeQBPp5svcXWo/s320/2018-02-07+13.35.52.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I am also working on another scrap blanket, using a pattern called <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/willow" target="_blank">Willow Square</a>. Here's my progress so far. I will be doing a white border around each square.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG8lAoLovPTyISYmhG-VI7HqNFfxEnXYQ-axIrWJ_zooltYBNDSdX176_NREGHmGWwbFrjfWBYUAoJsI1aHpiAv85_YqJ1cclpuWH1GtudKsaX0NLa53LjnHvFm7k6Wzar22LIIhhjMtff/s1600/2018-02-07+13.38.13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG8lAoLovPTyISYmhG-VI7HqNFfxEnXYQ-axIrWJ_zooltYBNDSdX176_NREGHmGWwbFrjfWBYUAoJsI1aHpiAv85_YqJ1cclpuWH1GtudKsaX0NLa53LjnHvFm7k6Wzar22LIIhhjMtff/s320/2018-02-07+13.38.13.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm always working on my sock yarn blanket. I only have one more row of squares to do, then the finishing triangles around the edges. The end is near!</div>

In the sewing/quilting department, just a few small accomplishments. I made a couple of bowl cozies. These are great when you have a hot bowl of soup.<br />

It is my turn this month to be queen in the <a href="http://stashbee.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Stash Bee</a>. This means that everyone in my hive makes me a block of my choosing. I have a Sister's Choice quilt started, so I chose for them to make these blocks so I can hopefully finish up my quilt. Here are a few of my blocks.<br />

It's hard to get motivated to do anything but sit around, which means lots of knitting time. I have been spending some time each day trying to organize my knitting/sewing room. My yarn and knitting patterns are all organized, next up is fabric organization. I belong to the <a href="http://www.stashbee.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">STASH BEE</a>, which is a monthly commitment to making a quilt block. How it works is you are part of a hive of 11 (one person for each month except Dec.). Each month a different person is hive queen and they get to pick a block and all the other members of the hive must make that block and send to them. For January the hive queen picked a library block. I made mine with a Canadian theme.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilUoJ8He7Bz782NMo6heG9AQw0Nrx5TQR1yalSv2Hlkw6WaSOx0saCOSV9FyH7eqDfHw4b2E5XSeV4p0yPPermbYdnQ-1R26mSTpOa_3kLOCB_5_4ireK2Sr2DUK4zLz2cQCYFUQIp88ev/s1600/20180111_102054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilUoJ8He7Bz782NMo6heG9AQw0Nrx5TQR1yalSv2Hlkw6WaSOx0saCOSV9FyH7eqDfHw4b2E5XSeV4p0yPPermbYdnQ-1R26mSTpOa_3kLOCB_5_4ireK2Sr2DUK4zLz2cQCYFUQIp88ev/s320/20180111_102054.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
As far as knitting goes, I am trying to tame the scrap bag. I have a couple of scrap blankets on the go. One is called Cosy Stripe Blanket <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cosy-stripe-blanket" target="_blank">https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cosy-stripe-blanket</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiem1D0Z8qxaboISRBjyvC6aoapigECYD6d3j1gMem5IQHjH5b3yQR6E1vTr-Omf1ygitxX3XXVQP_FUeJJMiKaT6GTahd4W8ahCMZ2V8wwZdNtIyqnUPZGneyPd1Gd9oudOAgjg2DOtLzl/s1600/20180115_135548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiem1D0Z8qxaboISRBjyvC6aoapigECYD6d3j1gMem5IQHjH5b3yQR6E1vTr-Omf1ygitxX3XXVQP_FUeJJMiKaT6GTahd4W8ahCMZ2V8wwZdNtIyqnUPZGneyPd1Gd9oudOAgjg2DOtLzl/s320/20180115_135548.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The other is just made up of crochet squares, using the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/willow" target="_blank">Willow Square</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDZOJoinyve69D4SvAbcFyMQ1_Mu9IWyyLpVOn94oN2pJ7UuTGA30SrqAjEJFhv-txNq0MyL5DH5EcB-FvqNn7hBm6CuggZ980HBFbb7d-lsIrO2B3jSkQ738oF48NJJ177SmBjIEQkMoA/s1600/20180115_135508.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDZOJoinyve69D4SvAbcFyMQ1_Mu9IWyyLpVOn94oN2pJ7UuTGA30SrqAjEJFhv-txNq0MyL5DH5EcB-FvqNn7hBm6CuggZ980HBFbb7d-lsIrO2B3jSkQ738oF48NJJ177SmBjIEQkMoA/s320/20180115_135508.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Then there is another blanket I'm working on, not using scraps, but knit in Bernat Pop in the color "Lipstick on your collar". The pattern is <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chevron-baby-blanket-19" target="_blank">Chevron Baby Blanket</a><br />

Lastly, but certainly not least, are the socks. A pair of scrappy socks for Amanda, for her birthday (I'm feeling generous and she's getting 2 pairs!), and one sock (so far) for me. Pattern is <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fair-isle-flower-sock" target="_blank">Fair Isle Flower Socks</a><br />

Then, because I am a little nuts, I decided that I would make two! For those of you who don't know what a temperature blanket is, it is a blanket that records the temperature each day of the year. I made mine by picking out a different color for every five degrees celsius (I live in Canada). I crocheted one row a day in moss stitch, every day for the entire year. Here are the finished blankets. Left side of the pictures is the start of the blankets in Jan. 2017. Right side of the pictures is Dec. 2017<br />

I don't really have any excuses, but tomorrow is a new year and I really hope to be more consistent. For now, I am going to make a goal of blogging at least once a month. I have been thinking of my knitting and quilting goals for 2018 and here is what I've come up with so far.<br />
Knitting - finish my sock yarn blanket<br />
- work on UFO's<br />
- knit from stash (my goal is NOT to buy any yarn in 2018)<br />
- knit at least 12 pairs of socks<br />
<br />
Quilting - finish Allietare ( all blocks are made, just need to be sewn together and quilted)<br />
- finish Sister's Choice ( need about a dozen more blocks)<br />

All 50 blocks for Allietare are finished. Just need to do the setting triangles and then I can start putting it together. I think that will be a job for after Christmas.<br />

Now, if I could just get motivated to finish my baking. Pain in my shoulder and neck means I can only sew for very short periods at a time. I am making progress, though. I now have 22 star blocks finished (out of 30) and 5 of the alternate blocks (out of 20). It will get done eventually!<br />

I know I said I wouldn't start anything new......but......there is a new quilt-along just started, called 150 Canadian Women. It is only 3 small 6 inch blocks each week, in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday in 2017. It is available by signing up for the e- newsletter at <a href="http://www.nextstepquiltdesigns.com/" target="_blank">Next Step Quilt Designs</a>. Here are my first 3 blocks:<br />

The pattern is downloaded on my tablet, so I didn't bother to print it out, and I paid the price. There I was, happily sewing away, not bothering to check the pattern, when I realized my 7 blocks were wrong! My pieces were mostly all sewn together last winter, and I had all the matching sets of 4 together like they were supposed to be. For some crazy reason, I thought they should be separated, and spent one whole afternoon separating all my matching sets and making sure every piece was different for each block. After finishing 7 blocks, I decided to check the pattern, and guess what? Each block is supposed to have a matching set! So...I spent the next day taking apart those 7 blocks and finding all my matching sets again!<br />

I wish I had a bigger design wall. Mine is just the back of a plastic tablecloth, and it works great, but it is small and in an area that is hard to get at, not ideal, but the only option in my small sewing room. My goal is to try and get at least 4 blocks pieced every day.<br />
<br />
On the home front, we have just been blessed with our 10th grandchild. Her name is Chloe Ann.<br />

I really don't have any excuses, other than work kinda gets in my way during the summer. That doesn't explain why I never blogged at all last winter, though. This winter I will do better.<br />
<br />
I have been suffering with a painful shoulder for the last month or so, so I haven't done a lot of knitting, I'm waiting to hear the results of my x-ray, but in the meantime the pain does seem to be easing off a bit. I am working on a couple of Christmas gifts and a baby blanket, but can't show any pictures of those quite yet. I have also dug out my long term winter project, my sock yarn blanket. I try to do at least 10 squares a month.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjiLxG6o3M_kAu7UacphuUWmCkzq9cryjqKeE1ePe9LlmnFutARspU71IC3ne7rU9H_9D-A2aizWkSAiHLnTtO6HfuhZo4_4RQev3vCyd9Qe1JjTFUbWeIYUE5f-YjCDirRCxO1CVUf9dp/s1600/2016-05-02+13.35.29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjiLxG6o3M_kAu7UacphuUWmCkzq9cryjqKeE1ePe9LlmnFutARspU71IC3ne7rU9H_9D-A2aizWkSAiHLnTtO6HfuhZo4_4RQev3vCyd9Qe1JjTFUbWeIYUE5f-YjCDirRCxO1CVUf9dp/s320/2016-05-02+13.35.29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have also started spending a bit of time in the sewing room. I am going to try really hard to finish up several projects, and NOT start anything new. Today I put together the first four blocks of my Allietare mystery quilt. Here are my goals for this winter:<br />
<br />
1. Piece together and quilt last year's mystery quilt, Allietare<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFYxa2aewu86ok9FPJVZ2W3gevB_HXxFzUE7RwEGIJP6brPaCKml4o7pXaKM7LxIGC0OiubW5fq3R-s3OPtA1iBBDwapnuusVG0CD5bku8PofnNDaz82kNmjGnsNBy-K1gUbAP2PmSbQBX/s1600/20161103_155113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFYxa2aewu86ok9FPJVZ2W3gevB_HXxFzUE7RwEGIJP6brPaCKml4o7pXaKM7LxIGC0OiubW5fq3R-s3OPtA1iBBDwapnuusVG0CD5bku8PofnNDaz82kNmjGnsNBy-K1gUbAP2PmSbQBX/s320/20161103_155113.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
2. Quilt my Easy Street flimsy<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGPBfa7FBSPElMNaU3MpRZOemG8uTHdEca8S9OX5w89x_Nxo9GWfBGoSVDJ_mI-Tov_rFa3HzJ7Y2aeO0dot5RJjv0qFNCk6hnjCYR-m_lcIhscDZBDznYTS52dx6m5iszPMZJaxxHa9y1/s1600/2016-01-12+16.30.51.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGPBfa7FBSPElMNaU3MpRZOemG8uTHdEca8S9OX5w89x_Nxo9GWfBGoSVDJ_mI-Tov_rFa3HzJ7Y2aeO0dot5RJjv0qFNCk6hnjCYR-m_lcIhscDZBDznYTS52dx6m5iszPMZJaxxHa9y1/s320/2016-01-12+16.30.51.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3. Finish piecing my Sister's Choice. I think I need about a dozen more blocks. I need to replenish my supply of neutrals and browns (star tips)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixjABJGrbzPc5WsrblM9KX8g4xpEYhbIvDTyq8tUF6yB18KeFFlcPc3Qq_6pN4tLA2_YaDDY7PmNDgOZDrpjCBz2WB4dEDn7hbYdX5jy-bVXu8GyGa5VJcszhutEi8A4ZPvXtMoWnUhp49/s1600/2016-01-24+15.34.23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixjABJGrbzPc5WsrblM9KX8g4xpEYhbIvDTyq8tUF6yB18KeFFlcPc3Qq_6pN4tLA2_YaDDY7PmNDgOZDrpjCBz2WB4dEDn7hbYdX5jy-bVXu8GyGa5VJcszhutEi8A4ZPvXtMoWnUhp49/s320/2016-01-24+15.34.23.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4. If I finish the first 3 goals, I have a Thimbleberries kit, "3's Company" that I'd love to work on. It is from 2009 (gasp!), and I only have the first 3 months done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
and......I am also hoping to join the <a href="http://www.stashbee.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Stash Bee</a>. It is only a commitment of one block a month, so that shouldn't be a problem. I won't find out until next month if there is a spot for me...keeping my fingers crossed...it looks like a lot of fun!Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09133158604468306587noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5389951958554887899.post-83393889770881257592015-09-25T17:30:00.002-03:002015-09-25T17:30:44.379-03:00It's Been Awhile! On the Needles, September 25, 2015Wow! Almost 4 months since my last post. Where does the time go? My only excuse is my job, which is seasonal, from May to October. I know lots of people have full time jobs, and still gets lots of other things done, but my job is very physical, and when I get home at night I'm too tired to do anything....most evenings even too tired to knit! Thank goodness it's almost over. October 19th is our last day of work, and then I can relax, and knit, and sew, and cross-stitch, and whatever else my heart desires! I do still have some knitting finishes since my last post. I want to knit a pair of socks for each of my grandchildren for Christmas, so far I have 2 pair done out of 7. I have 9 grandchildren, but the 2 youngest aren't getting socks.<br />

Wow..... It's been almost 2 months since my last blog post. I have been doing a little knitting, but now that I'm back to work full time, the knitting time is severely restricted. I did manage to finish a pair of socks for my mom for Mother's Day, and last night I finished a pair for my dad for Father's Day.<br />

I'm also working on a pair of Newfie Vamps for one of my co-workers. He and his wife both work with me, and she is hoping to be able to give them to him as a Father's Day gift. I have one sock done, hopefully I'll get the other one done in time!<br />

First up is a sweater for our grandson Hayden's 4th birthday. Brown and orange are his colors, and I can't wait to get a picture of him modelling it.<br />

Next are a few small finishes. I am planning to put together a package to send to Wool-Aid (www.wool-aid.org), helping children in Tibet, Mongolia, Syria, and Kazakhstan. I had a large box of 100% wool given to me by my aunt, so this is a good way of using some of it up. <br />

You might say we have a bit of snow! Last week's storm left us with 86

lane paths. And guess what? Tonight and tomorrow we are getting more
snow, possibly mixed with rain. What a mess. Hubby and I went for a
drive this afternoon and took a few pictures.</div>

We had a great visit with my mom and dad in Ontario. We also got to see both of my brothers, my uncle Brian, and my Aunt Betty. The weather was perfect for travelling. We got home just before the extreme cold spell, and now we are getting snow. Just before Christmas, I got a petit point picture back from the framers. It was stitched at least 20 years ago, so it was about time it came out of the closet!<br />

A pair of heavy socks for hubby. My aunt gifted me with a box full of roving and another box full of Briggs and Little wool yarn, so I need to make lots of heavy socks, thrum mittens, thrum slippers, etc. These were going to be for me, but Dale took one look at the color and fell in love, so they will be for him!<br />

The yarn is 100% Alpaca that has been in my stash for almost 10 years! It is so soft and warm. <br />

I also have a few pair of socks on the go, but I can't show any pictures, because they will be Christmas gifts.<br />

We've also been busy making salsa, over 50 pints so far. We use the Bernardin Fiesta Salsa Mix, it makes a really nice salsa. We usually add a bit of hot pepper powder to give it some more kick! We grow and dehydrate our own hot peppers. This year we have jalapenos and cayennes (mostly green because our growing season is not long enough for more then a few of them to turn red).<br />

The main reason I wanted to go was to check out the Handicraft exhibits. I had entered quite a bit of knitting, and I wanted to see if I got any ribbons. No pictures yet, as I can't pick up my items until next week, but I got at least four 1st place ribbons, several 2nd places, and a 3rd place.<br />
<br />
On our way to Charlottetown, we noticed that the blueberry u-pick was open, so on our way home we stopped to pick some berries.<br />
