On and Off the Needles, January 31, 2014

A couple of finishes this week. First up is the baby dress. This was meant to be knit only at my Monday night stitch group, but I got a bit excited to get it finished, so now I need a new Monday night project.
Baby Dress, size 6 months
I found enough buttons to finish my baby owlet sweater. I'm not overly fond of sewing on buttons, but all 32 of them are sewn on. Now I need to make a hat to go with the sweater, and that means more buttons!

I decided to knit some more on my mystery socks, thinking that maybe I would like them more as I progressed, but I still don't like them. I really think they will be heading to the frog pile. No sense knitting something that I'm not enjoying, and these just are not an enjoyable knit. Sorry socks.....it's not your fault that I don't like you......no hard feelings, OK!!!!!

On and Off the Needles, Jan.24, 2014

Here's what I've been working (and not working) on this week. My Dylan cardigan is on hold, not because I don't like it, but because I have decided to work on my entries for the Provincial Exhibition this summer. I know summer is a long way away, but once I start back to work the first of May my knitting time will be virtually non-existent. My mystery socks are also on hold, because I don't really care for the pattern that is appearing on the leg. It's just not my style. I did finish my mittens, though.
Plain Mittens
I also knit a sweater. This is the Baby Owlet Sweater. It is not blocked yet, and I still need to add the button eyes for the owls, but I am pleased. It is size 18 months to 24 months, and will be an entry in the  exhibition.

I am also knitting a pair of gloves, also  for the exhibition.
First glove is finished
That's all for this week. Stay tuned to see what the next week will have on my needles!

On and Off The Needles - Jan.17, 2014

Lots of knitting done this week. My Hitchhiker is finished....now we just need some normal cold winter weather so I can wear it. It has been mild and rainy for the last week.
Slippers for my daughter-in-law are finished. She picked the pattern and the colors!

A bit of progress on my Dylan cardigan.......

I belong to a needlework guild, and we meet every Monday night. Sometimes I cross-stitch, but lately I'm just knitting. My current Monday night project is Sweet Baby Dress .

On...and Off The Needles

The Birthday socks are finished, with a week to spare!
First Pair of 2014
My hitchhiker is coming along nicely. I have 35 teeth done, and I'm to the point where I either need to finish it, or add another skein and continue on to 42 teeth as per the pattern. I want to keep knitting to 42 teeth, but here's my problem. I bought the yarn years ago, and it was in a sale bin with no identifying bands. I bought 3 skeins, so I have lots, I just don't know for sure if it is exactly the same. I have put in a lifeline, and I'm going to continue on with the new skein and see what happens. If it looks good, great, if not I'll just rip it back to the lifeline and cast off and call it finished.
Of course, I have a couple of new projects on the horizon. The first one is a sweater for me. It has been many years since I have knit a sweater, so wish me luck. It is called Dylan Cardigan, and it is a simple top-down seamless cardigan. I am using some non-expensive acrylic yarn from my stash, as I'm wanting to wear this sweater to work on chilly days, and I work with cleaning supplies and bleach, so I don't want anything too expensive that might get ruined. The pattern can be found HERE
My daughter-in-law has asked me to make her a pair of slippers. She showed me a crochet pattern that she liked, and I searched for a knitting pattern that was similar. I haven't cast on for these yet, but they should be a quick knit. The pattern is HERE.

I'm linking up with Judy over at Patchwork Times. Head on over there and have a look at what other folks are working on.

Celtic Solstice - Slow Progress

I'm making very slow progress sewing together the blocks for Celtic Solstice. My sewing room has been such a disaster that I have been spending most of my time straightening up and organizing my space. Most days I might only get a couple of blocks sewn together, but that's ok. It's not a race, and it will get done eventually. I made a mistake in the bottom left block, one of my 4 patches is the wrong way......will have to fix that!
14 blocks finished
Please take a minute to go to QUILTVILLE and see some of the wonderful quilts made from this pattern. They are all gorgeous!

On My Needles, Jan.3, 2014

I'm making progress on both my socks and my Hitchhiker. I'm starting the gusset on the second sock, and I have 26 "teeth" done on my Hitchhiker.

On the home front, we are getting a blizzard today. Not a huge amount of snowfall expected, but it is light, dry snow and it is blowing around enough to cause whiteout conditions. It doesn't look as bad as it actually is. For most of the day we haven't been able to see our neighbors house. In the picture you can just barely see it behind our truck.

It's a full time job trying to keep the birds supplied with enough food to keep warm. The bluejays love peanuts and Cheerios!
Enjoying a feed of peanuts
For those of you working on Celtic Solstice, here are a few of my blocks. Only the bottom 2 are sewn together, the rest are just on display, waiting to be sewn together.
